Endemic News
Endemic Review in Kirkus
Ebola is real
Life imitates art. Readers of ENDEMIC may have heard the news of a real Ebola disease outbreak in the same area of the Congo I chose as
This wasn’t fast work on my part. I wrote the book in 2008. The book is set during the First Congo War in 1995, although security in the area has improved very little since then. It is also not a surprise Ebola would appear in the area, as it is endemic (ahem) among the local bat population. My book was submitted for publication four months before the outbreak, and I had no idea the timing would be so close.
I haven’t publically made a link between the news and my book because it is unseemly to profit by the suffering of real human beings. However, I can use my (small) influence to encourage concerned readers to donate to MSF or a similar charity specializing in the care of Ebola victims. These people are real heroes.
Back to Work
The holidays are definitely over, so it’s past time to write a post 🙂
I hope you all had a good holiday season and didn’t gain as much weight as I did.
The New Year is upon us, and that means one thing: Deadlines!
I’m going to get “New Persia: The Tempest,” finished for the publisher by April 1, so I’ll be busy. I’ve been lying awake at night wondering how exactly I’m going to work out a few of the tight spots Basir, Farad, Nasrin, and Suri find themselves in. And that’s just getting the first draft done. Then I have to edit!
So far, the book is mostly action. If you liked the active parts of “Before the Storm,” you’ll like “The Tempest.” There’s no time for dancing now the war has started!
Long term, I’m considering adding another “Black Directive” novel. “Endemic” has sold better than expected, and I sense there may be demand for more books in the series.
I’ll keep y’all posted.
